Membership

Student Membership

Individual enrolled in schools, colleges or university level in post secondary educational studies who has an interest in the work of the FIRSTIP can apply for Student Membership.

IP Owners Membership

Individual who owns any type of intellectual property, i.e., patents, trademarks, designs, copyrights, domain names or who has filed application for the same in his name can become IPO member of the association. The annual dues for this membership are NIL.

Honorary Fellow Membership

Honorary Fellow Membership – All veterans above the age of 45 having rich professional experience and willing to work towards the objectives of the organisation shall be entitled for honorary fellow membership without paying any dues. This membership is by invitation only from the Advisory Council of the FIRSTIP.

Fellow Membership

Fellows shall be members of the association who are interested in the advancement of sustainable technologies, traditional knowledge and intellectual property as a profession and who have met the requirements described below. The minimum requirements for fellow status are:

  • Doctoral degree in any scientific discipline with 4 years relevant experience.
  • Masters Degree in any discipline and minimum 07 years professional experience in the related field and prior status as a member of FIRSTIP for at least one year, and nomination by a division to which the member belongs.
  • Active engagement in the advancement of sustainable technologies, traditional knowledge and intellectual property.
  • Five years of acceptable post-doctoral experience.
  • Evidence of unusual and outstanding contribution or performance in the field of sustainable technologies, traditional knowledge and intellectual property.

Fellow status is an honor bestowed upon FIRSTIP members who have shown evidence of unusual and outstanding contributions or performance in the field of sustainable technologies, traditional knowledge and intellectual property. Fellow status requires that a person’s work has had a national impact on the field of sustainable technologies, traditional knowledge and intellectual property beyond a local, state or regional level. A high level of competence or steady and continuing contributions are not sufficient to warrant fellow status. National impact must be demonstrated.

A Fellow member can access the official publication of FIRSTIP for whole of the life by email and one can use the title “FFIRSTIP” Fellow Member, Foundation for Innovative Research, Sustainable Technologies & Intellectual Property.

Associate Membership

Individuals who have significantly contributed towards promoting sustainable technologies and traditional knowledge of India or who have actively involved in innovative research are eligible for lifetime associate membership.

An Associate member can access the official publication of FIRSTIP for 5 years by email and one can use the title “AFIRSTIP” Associate Member, Foundation for Innovative Research, Sustainable Technologies & Intellectual Property.

Institutional Membership

Corporations or other business organizations such as consulting firms and software companies involved in protecting environment through sustainable technologies and creating any type of intellectual property for the benefit of public at large can apply for Corporate membership.

Non-profit Membership

Non-Profit membership is available to Educational and Research institutions and other non-profit organizations that contribute towards innovation, traditional knowledge and sustainable technologies.

Regular Membership

Regular membership is available to individuals from multiple scientific disciplines who are significantly contributing towards promoting creativity as well as eco-friendly technologies and are ready to devote minimum 4 hours a week for carrying forward the objectives of organization.

Volunteer with us

In addition to the membership, you can be part of our team of volunteers to support any of the objectives of FIRSTIP. You can join any one of the following working groups and committees.

Working Groups:

  1. Working Group on Traditional Knowledge
  2. Technology Licensing Working Group
  3. Sustainable Innovation Working Group

Committees:

  1. Academic Committee– The key roles of this committee are:

(i)   To advise on member benefits and services for Students, Scientists and Academicians.

(ii)   To develop, implement and maintain short term academic and capacity building programs including lectures, roundtables, seminars, panel discussions etc.,

(iii)   To design and develop awards in different categories,

(iv)   To design and organise competitions on scientific innovation and traditional knowledge.

The activities of this committee may include program content development; course materials review and/or development; recruitment of speakers, and moderators; location and venue recommendations; and promotional assistance.

  • Events Committee- FIRSTIP’s Events Committee develops, implements and maintains Awareness programs for inventors. Committee members also participate as project team members when necessary.
  • Young Innovators Committee- This committee has following roles:

(i)    To benchmark and advise on member benefits and services for Young Innovators;

(ii)   To develop, implement and maintain programmes for young innovators.

  • Legislation Committee- This committee has following roles:

(i)   To analyzes legislative and regulatory developments and identifies deficiencies in existing laws and regulations relating to technology and intellectual property;

(ii)   To develop legislations relating to protection of intellectual property and sustainable technologies and standardise them for adoption by the Government;

(iii)   To extend help to governments and NGOs involved in treaty negotiation in order to safeguard the interests of public at large;

  • Bulletin Committee – The roles of this committee are as follows:

(i)   To conduct research, write and edit articles related to activities of organisation for publication in FIRSTIP Bulletin;

(ii)   To obtain material from other committees for publication into the bulletin after careful editing;

(iii)   To ensure that the monthly bulletin is produced in a timely manner;

(iv)   To provide support to the Academic Committee as requested.

The term of aforesaid committees shall be one year. The Committee Selection shall begin from January 01, 2025 for 2025-26 Committee Term.
