A patent protects a new, useful and non-obvious invention for twenty years from filing. In India it is granted by the Indian Patent Office under the Patents Act, 1970.
Before you file
- Do not publish, exhibit or publicly demonstrate the invention — disclosure destroys novelty.
- Record your work in dated form: notebooks, drawings, test results.
- Search the prior art. Most rejections are avoidable at this stage.
How we help
We run patent-awareness sessions and IP clinics, help inventors structure a disclosure, explain provisional versus complete specifications, and refer applicants to registered patent agents.
